(Anonymous) 2020-01-08 03:04 am (UTC)(link)I don't have to spend any money that would go towards JKR, I already have the books, I've already seen the films (at least, the ones I cared about-- the Fantastic Beasts films haven't grabbed my attention much). I'm not likely to have the opportunity to go to the theme park. But as an adult who grew up alongside Harry and friends, I don't have to have all my nostalgia tainted by the author's stance on whether or not all women deserve respect.
People who disagree with JKR aren't 'cyberbullies'-- even disagreeing out loud with someone on an internet platform isn't the same as bullying, and for the few who cross a line, well, I'm sure she's crying all the way to the bank. There are still plenty of people who will buy new editions of books and official merch, and even if everyone stopped cold today, she wouldn't be hurting. But people saying they can still enjoy Harry Potter even if they don't care for the author aren't saying they're continuing to spend money-- they're just saying they don't have to throw the whole thing out. If they're already fans, odds are they already own the stuff they need to own.
