I'd normally agree, but I think Dimitri's one of the few exceptions.

There are theories, that I'm inclined to believe, that one of the reasons for Dimitri's violence and instability is because he's literally being haunted and goaded to give into his need for vengeance by his father and the others that died in the Tragedy of Duscur. The events that lead Felix to start calling him the Boar happened post ToD, his good childhood friends have no idea he's probably hearing the real, actual voices of the people he saw die.

I think people also are forgiving towards him because he doesn't make excuses for his actions. Spirits are possibly haunting him, but he owns that his bad acts are his and his alone.

Ah yes. Theories. Because those are canon.

Like people don't brainstorm and try to read between the lines all the time.

Yeah but considering fandom only really comes up with theories to further their pretty whiteboy manpain (and let's be real, Dimitri is about as compelling and original as dirt--we've seen his character so many times over so many canons) AND he's violent to boot (I was disturbed by how often him wanting to violently and GRAPHICALLY murder Edelgard came up and was lauded by fandom like that's not a conscious choice of the writers on some level)... IDK. I just can't, and the amount he's treated as The Best And Most Righteous Ever Whom Edelgard Betrayed...

Three Houses was the first piece of media that made me want to seek out discussions in years. I grew tired of the pretty boy white guys being woobified when I used to be in fandom, but there was something about this game that struck a chord. Dimitri is cliched as hell, but I liked the route the route and didn't find that the game was making any excuses for his behavior even if one believes he was insane or haunted.

I was disturbed by how often him wanting to violently and GRAPHICALLY murder Edelgard

Every time he growled that girl/woman I could here the not so subtly implied bitch underneath. Total failure in the writing there.

Anyone who thinks Edelgard personally betrayed Dimitri totally missed some key information. She doesn't remember their childhood friendship. It's not a theory or fan conjecture, the character says she didn't remember near the end of the Blue Lions route. Her aha moment is easy to miss in her route and even that's kind of obvious if you played Dimitri's first.

Not in the fandom but lord even I can see Edelgard fans are the absolute worst.

I keep reading Edelgard as Edgelord and thinking that yeah, edgelord fans are the worst.

And your "waahhh he's only popular because blonde white manpain" is not a theory ....?
