Re: Writing Thread

I've felt all along like the first scene I wrote was the strongest in the story thus far, but now I'm considering rewriting it. I still really like it but it doesn't quite fit into what comes later. It can stand as a short story on its own (which is how it was originally written) so I'm debating maybe just taking it out of this story altogether and having it be its own thing, but I also feel like it could work really well within the story if I just made a few changes, so I'm conflicted.

Secondly, I'm trying to figure out how much of the story should be focused on the romance vs. the larger story (and vs. the secondary/background romance, for that matter). The overall story is more complicated (it's based on some real life events that have a lot of different parts and involve a huge cast of characters) and I'm starting to think if it's going to be the focus, I need to leave the romance out entirely (or just have it very, very minimally in the background, and leave out the secondary pair altogether). Or if I'm going to make the focus the romance, I should keep it simple, just focus on the relationship between those two characters and forget about any larger, more complex plot. I think otherwise it would just be too much to fit into the same story.

Also, there are certain aspects of the romance that I've wanted to do in relationships myself but never actually have and I'm not sure how to approach them. Everything I try to write ends up just sounding super awkward and not at all the way people talk (or at least not the way that people like these characters talk) and I just don't know what to do.

Gah.
