I know when I had ships with adult/minor age gaps, it was because *I* was a minor. And the people I knew who shipped those things were other kids who had crushes on adults, and wanted that fantasy through fiction. So I do tend to think a lot of the people who like those ships are underage kids themselves, and that's a safe way of exploring those feelings without being in that situation.


Whereas yeah, like... I've DEFINITELY known a couple of people like OP's abuser, who enjoyed squeaky clean media, had a good reputation, but I wouldn't leave them alone with a minor (and preventing that would be the only reason I'd ever willingly be in the same room as them).
