Nothing's been ruined for me by fandom. But most things I'm fannish about eventually end up getting ruined for me by the creators themselves (and by my own fannish tendency to be way too invested and to have way too many firm opinions about the world of the story and the characters).

Honestly, I'd say it tends to be about 50/50 - the creators ruining it with lazy storytelling and me ruining it for myself with unreasonably stringent expectations.
