From time to time I still read the old posts and journals of my fandom friends, and even look up some websites on the wayback machine.

Some of them sound just way creepier now, as an adult, than they did to a 13 to 16 year old.

I do this too, lol. And yeah, some of it is definitely weird now vs then.

As an old-schooler, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume these old posts were not intended for an adolescent audience. In which case, it's hard to care that an unwelcome teen turned judgey adult is being judgey about them however many years later.

OP - I never hid my age. And I know you have no reason to know this, but I really wouldn't describe them as creepy if they weren't creepy by modern and old standards alike.

yeah this happens, things that skirted by your radar when you were younger actually hit when you look back with older eyes. it's like watching media you enjoyed as a kid and seeing the inappropriate jokes/innuendo/questionable writing choices as an adult.

Oh, no. You just reminded me of when I first got into fandom and there was this trend (at least in the circles I frequented) where people would say "I would rape so-and-so" meaning they found someone (characters, actors, musicians, etc.) attractive.

I never used it because I found it distasteful (to say the least), but the one time I dared comment on it I got dogpiled by people telling me it was just an expression or a joke, that they obviously didn't mean it, that I was too sensitive, that I needed to grow up...

And that's the story of how I became a lurker.
