DA

She is, I figured most of the backlash was because she was american.

It is. Race relations are not the same in the UK as they are in the US, and where you come from is by far the more prevalent reason for prejudice.

Sorry, can you expand on this? Because it doesn't seem very plausible on the face of it

Actually, while class issues have a lot to do with British people's issues with Meghan, but racism is very much tied in with that. It isn't just about where she's from.

HahahahahaHAHAHAHAHA- Oh my god you're serious.

nope, this isn't true at all and is something us brits love to spout to make us look better than those stinky americans. we have plenty of issues with racism it just doesn't always manifest in the same way as it does in the US.

and historically class+race are pretty closely intertwined bigotries as a lot of racial-minority communities were sequestered into poorer areas after things like slavery/occupation of foreign nations. there are ENTIRE sections of UK cities that have specific racial divides because white-folks pushed them there when they came to live here, and they don't or can't leave due to harassment/violence if they try.

some places are better integrated than others sure, but that's the same for many other countries too.

An American ACtress, for god's sake!

I welcome Harry and Meghan to North America. Hope they enjoy Canada or wherever they decide to settle.

Can't blame 'em for wanting to get away from the UK press. It's awful to everyone, not just royalty and celebrities. Those assholes would doorstep you if your kid died on the bus.

It's also funny because the reaction of the British press completely justifies their desire to step away, and yet somehow the British press still seems bewildered and confused about why they would want to step away
