(Anonymous) 2020-01-13 05:55 am (UTC)(link)To be honest, I've always found this info slightly suspicious, because I really doubt that the vast majority of tourists would not visit Britain if there were no royals and would not buy other useless souvenir if there was no crap with royals' faces available. The two weedings were definately bringing in some extra money, but that just twice in 30+ years. The rest seems pretty replacable.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-13 09:00 am (UTC)(link)In London alone, people travel for
-History museums (of which there are more than one, though if you want to argue that they shouldn't be counted because, as with the Tower, royals were involved in the history somewhere, I'll keep going)
-Art museums
-Famous restaurants
-Famous hotels
-Places film/television scenes have been shot
-Places books have been written or set
-Famous shopping destinations (I won't argue some of these people haven't got too much money)
-Parks
-Nightlife
-Other historic locations which don't revolve around royals.
But... then, you didn't say London, did you? You said the UK. And the UK has...
-Stonehenge
-Even more places from books and television
-Seaside towns
-Places in the countryside
-Further historical buildings that don't require the continued existence of a royal family
-Sports, for the international football and cricket fans in particular, but also a lot of golf in Scotland
-Breweries and distilleries
And of course there are people who make trips to see family overseas or to visit the places their ancestors came from. I personally know more people who would go to the UK for fan conventions than to see the fuckin changing of the guard.
As for racism, it's pretty damn bad where I'm at, too, so it's not like I'd be leaving a utopia of tolerance if I went to the UK. But, you know, you just keep on deep-throating that monarchist boot, buddy.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-13 10:54 am (UTC)(link)The idea of getting rid of them as Heads of State who represent our country and replacing them with horrendous turd like Boris Johnson or Donald Trump makes me shudder.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-14 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)And yup, if they got rid of the royals, that'd be it, no Palaces, no Tower, no tourism. Just ask Versailles. If anything, tourism would improve, since all those places would be open to the public.
