I've only watched a few episodes of KnY and I don't know who this guy is - can any fans here give me the rundown?

Zenitsu is one of the main group of characters and his formal introduction to the team happens when they overhear him begging a girl to marry him because if not he'll die. That's a running gag throughout the series that he really likes girls and really wants to get married because he's afraid of dying without a family. He can be a a little perverted about it sometimes but I don't recall him actually trying to assault any of the girls he likes, he just begs them to marry him, they have various "nopes" and he's sad for like a second.

Other things he has more in common with Mineta are being a huge wuss about fighting, being a crybaby, and freaking out over other inconsequential things.

Girl crazy but not molesty sounds about right. I haven't read the manga yet, so I can't say for sure he never gets molesty, but I think trying to molest someone would be OOC... although honestly mostly because he seems like he's too timid to try anything that drastic, more than because he's too respectful to ever.

Cool, thanks. Yeah, comparing him to Mineta sounds really unfair then - no one cares that Mineta hits on girls, they care that he's a gross pervert who wants to grope or peek on every girl he meets. Bit different.

while that are people in the fandom that don't like zenitsu I would say that the majority do. The japanese fandom especially loves him and the more casual side of the fandom likes him a lot because he has the best fights. Also tanjiro/zenitsu is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) ship in the fandom and zenitsu/tengen and zenitsu/kaigaku are also very popular

I don't know that him being popular really disproves the 'Mineta-like' accusation. There are people who like *Mineta*, strange as that may seem.

I mean sure, but it does at least imply hr has something else going for him if he's that popular. Some people like Mineta, yes, but he's not topping out any polls.

This is a weird thing to say when you're not familiar with the fandom. Yes, there's always the possibility that any secret's OP might be lying as far as you know, because you don't know anything about the fandom.

I can see where people get the similarities, with the crybaby thing and whining about girls, but A) Zenitsu isn't a pervert to the girls, just annoying b and B) when push comes to shove, he IS actually quite heroic, evan though he's scared (see: him protecting Tanjiro's box from Inosuke, for example)

Mineta has no such redeeming qualities. As someone else said, a more fair comparison would be to Miroku from Inuyasha (and even then, Zenitsu still doesn't grope anyone, just clings.)

Another plus, for me at least, is that Tanjiro explicitly calls him out on being annoying about girls. No one really calls Mineta out ever (except for the girls being harassed) despite him being surrounded by supposed heroes at all times.

Miroku was never a crybaby, or incompetent when it came to leadership or being the hero. His character type is nothing close to what you're listing these other character are like. He's a pervert, yes, but not a whiny bitch about it.

Not with those things, but it's easy to make parallels between the marry me/bear my child running jokes and having one girl on the team they're especially fond of doing it to (Nezuko and Sango) but will go for others as well. The friend I was watching with even jokingly shouted "Bear my child!" during Zenitsu's first "marry me random girl" scene.

AYRT Obviously they're still different characters. I'm just saying he's much closer to Miroku than Mineta. especially because of his GOOD qualities, which Mineta just doesn't have at all.
