Confession

I buy music when I can afford it. But I download a lot of music from Youtube videos using the youtubetomp3 app. I've currently got 2000+ songs on my computer downloaded from the app, and TBH I really don't feel guilty about it.

Eh. I mostly use Spotify & the monetary difference is frankly negligible, so realistically I don't think the moral critique of downloading makes sense anymore.

I honestly should go back to actually buying music from independent artists, but that only really makes sense when you have the infrastructure set up around it, and it's so much more convenient to use cloud-based streaming services. When I switched over from my old laptop to my new one, I forgot to transfer my music collection, and now it's just a question of effort.

I used to check out CDs from the library and rip the music to put on my iPod back in the day.

I do this too. I do feel kind of guilty about it, mainly because some of the songs are by lesser known artists. I keep telling myself I'm going to start setting aside like $20 per month to start buy the songs properly, but I keep forgetting or putting it off. I guess that'll be a New Year's resolution for me this year.

Yeah, I know very little people who actually buy their music/entertainment. You can download pretty much anything these days. I'll only buy music when I really like it and my spending problem is at it's peak, otherwise I don't bother.

I only rip stuff when it's something that I can't purchase legally (like foreign songs that aren't on Amazon or Google in the US). Otherwise, it's so cheap to buy songs these days that I really can't justify not doing so.
