I’m glad you found your best life, but you are going to be slammed in the comments for this.

I’ll choose not to believe troll because hey people need to know that surgery is not the answer for everyone.

If "surgery is not the answer for everyone" was all the OP said, instead of "surgery wasn't the answer for me, so it shouldn't even be a suggestion for anyone," they wouldn't be getting slammed in the comments. Nice selective reading.

+1

"Surgery isn't the answer for everyone" is actually very frequently discussed in trans circles. Nobody is shocked by that revelation.

Yeah. It's about on a level with "some gay men are racist to other gay men" in the "everyone in the community knows this is a thing, stop making out you've come up with some stunning new challenge" stakes. We know! Everyone knows! Now please bugger off, you're not actually helping (and we all know you don't want to, either).

So to help confront racism within a group with a protected characteristic...you should just decide that everyone's aware of it, and bugger off. Wow. If only MLK had thought of that.

NAYRT: I think it's a bad analogy. But since it's out there, if you're not letting QTIPOC take the lead on discussing racism within LGBTQ groups, there's a BIG chance that you're just WHITE-knighting to express anti-LGBTQ prejudice. (If not an actual disinformation agent, since trying to create drama between gay and non-white voters is a thing that happens.)

In my experience, trans people are the ONLY ones who are fully discussing the pros, cons, risks, and benefits of the dozens of different steps and types of transition, including not transitioning at all. And that always comes with a big helping of, "You need to do what's best for YOU."

You know, here in the 21st century, all sorts of folks have an internet connection. Even the gays! Even *whispers* non-white gays! So I don't think I really need the twelve hundredth hot take from some straight white dude about how hey, GAY people are RACIST (so they totally don't deserve rights), when I can read an editorial from a Chinese-American dude in NYC about how racism in the gay community affects him personally.

But sure, hon, you're just like MLK JR because you pointed to some *other* group and shouted "hey, they're racist!"
Totally.

Cis people are weirdly obsessed with confirmation surgery as the defining marker of being trans, even though a majority of trans people can't or won't get surgery for over a dozen reasons that are openly discussed in trans circles.

Yeppppp

(Anonymous) 2020-01-17 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps because surgery in conjunction with medication is always used as the get-out clause when people ask reasonable questions about issues such as transwomen in sport, or access to spaces such as domestic refuges or prisons.

AYRT: I have an open mind about those concerns. Generally speaking though, the genital status of others is none of our fucking business.
