The biggest problem with the show is that is throws a lot at you but doesn't tell you what's important. Everything is given the same weight. They do this with the world building (throwing characters, places and events at you but don't tell you what you need to remember and what not), character motivations (case in point), even the audio track (I hard a hard time to understand the dialogue at times because the actors didn't enunciate very clearly and the dialogue track wasn't raised much above ambient noise and soundtrack; I'm all for making it more "gritty", but not at the expense of comprehension).
That's what makes the discussion so frustrating, because even though it seems to me like everyone in this thread is coming at this from a different angle, every single one of those angles is supported by the show. I think it's all about purpose, someone else says it's all about choice, someone else says it's standard misogynist writing. And everyone's got an equally good point! I like the show, but talking about it is just tiring.
