Older fandoms? Small fandoms? Vintage fandom wank? Anon explaining wtf that tar season thing was about?

More stuff for... not necessarily *tiny* fandoms, just a few more about the non-juggernauts. You know, a few about Rick Riodan or Agatha Christie or movies that aren't Marvel/Disney. Medium fandoms that aren't the colossal and drama-loaded types. Give us something new to chew over.

Maybe secrets to do with opinions about fanfic? Tropes you hate. Filthy tropes you love. Weird shit you kink on. IDK, just anything fic related.

I read a lot of fic and tend to have opinions about fic-related stuff regardless of the specific fandom the secret-maker reads in. Whereas I'm a lot less likely to be engaged by secrets about source texts.

Oh yeah, that's not a bad idea. I used to love fanficrants on lj. I read a lot of fanfic and I have a lot of feelings, so I might start taking notes so I can put together a few secrets.

Something that's not The Witcher, Star Wars related, or complaining about some sort of *ism or *phobia.

I wouldn't mind more Trope talk to be honest. Good Tropes, Bad Tropes, Meh Tropes, whatever.

Admittedly I get it bc it's easier to watch something than play something, but I wish there was a higher percentage of video game secrets again. I don't know what a good 95% of the secrets are even about anymore, because I'm just not really into TV shows, but I have all kinds of video game opinions.

Wow, tar season. That takes me back.

What I want more of -- book secrets. The older/more obscure, the better. If it's a book I've read I love being able to recognize it, and I've gotten some good recs out of secrets about books I hadn't read. My personal, highly specific favorite type of book secret is "I read this book as a kid and when I re-read it I noticed something new or saw it in a completely different light." We had a secret like that recently and I'd love to see more.

Also, I love that we've had a revival of anime secrets lately.

The one about Tom's Midnight Garden was mine! I enjoy book secrets, too. I'll have to think about if there's any more that I can do.

I'd like to say older fandoms and video games, but at the same time I feel like they can be a real hit or miss. I do think some fanfic secrets would be an interesting touch, that way more people can relate to what the secret is about even if they aren't familiar with the media.
Also- what's tar season?

There was a very strange anon a few years ago who posted secrets that seemed to come from an alternate universe - the best remembered being one where they wanted their favourite celebrity to visit their town just before "tar season", so they'd be stuck there for a good while.

DA - I think this had to have been like the better part of a decade ago. I know about it from links someone provided a couple of years back, but tar-season anon was before my time and I've been around for...idk, five years at least.

I wish I could remember what else they said, because it wasn't just tar. There were a couple of other weird "cultural" details too iirc.

I know there was one about potatoes, but I can't remember anything about it.

I don't even know where to begin... Like maybe they live in a small town where their major roads get paved around the same time every year? I will admit that the potato thing that someone mentioned below does seem familiar though...

I still wonder about tar-anon from time to time. I don't want any explanation but more secrets of that ilk would be great.

I miss the ridiculous "I judge you" and "you were the R2 to my C3PO" secrets.
