For me it depends on the ship... but I tend to like switches, whereas Dom/sub is way more set. I can only think of a couple things I'll read both ways when it comes to D/s.

I grew up in anime fandoms where most top/bottom dynamics were based mostly on height, and the bottoms were generally mischaracterized because of that. (here's looking at you Choutaro/Shishido) So I do get a little protective over who tops and bottoms because of that. The dom/subbing was also very fixed, so even when I see a power bottom I like/ship I still have to shake off some residual bitterness when I read fic/headcanons about it.

Kt depends on the pairing. With some, I'll read with either as dom or sub. Steve/Bucky is that way for me. Same with Doctor/Master-Missy.

But with some, I have clear preferences. Like with Spike/Buffy, Spike/Angel, and Spike/Buffy/Angel, Spike is always submissive in my mind. Can't see him as anything but. And with Kylo/Hux, Kylo is a submissive who tires to be dominant and Hux is very much a dominant who gets off on control. Can't see them any other way.

When I used to be in the Supernatural fandom and OTPing Dean/Cas, I always read it with Cas as dominant and Dean as sub.

I have strict preferences on both and hate it. I try reading the opposite to my preference and my brain just goes "nope, don't like it". Stupid brain.

I have pretty strict preferences on both as well.

I do like my OTPs to switch a little, though, because I like the thought that they do everything together. They're not limited, and as long as the other enjoys it, they're willing to give it a try. But when it comes to actually reading smut scenes where my preferred bottom tops and vice versa? I'm not really into it. Ideal, for me, is where it's mentioned that the bottom has topped before, and it's enjoyable for both of them, and it's something they do sometimes, but all the major sex scenes in the fic are with them in the roles I prefer.
