I really like characters who obviously have strong chemistry but don't get together right away. I like seeing how those relationships build and change over time especially if they start off disliking each other. It's way easier to find in fic than tv these days. It used to be a thing in the 90s and then it died at some point.

I like truth serum/spells or something that reveals secrets as a plot too.

Yes! Slowly developing relationships are the best. But I want legit reasons for them not getting together, not stupid things like misunderstandings that could be gotten past with just a simple conversation. I want a relationship that slowly develops and is well-written.

it's because of how tv has changed, no one knows if they're getting cancelled now so the writers will do as much as they can in one season. i can understand the frustration because some of my fave ships are slow-burns from the 90's, but i also get that this is how it is now and roll with it.
