[Gary Sinise as Mac Taylor in CSI: NY]

Any conservative who is like him has left the Republican party, and anyone who still votes Republican is not like him at all. The Republican party of the past, the one this guy would have voted for, would be ashamed of the current party.

I know and respect some real life conservatives. But all of them are currently voting Democrat and no longer consider themselves Republicans. I mean, I still find a lot of their judgment questionable, like the fact that they hold out Reagan as a great president when he was so terrible. But I do respect them.

I can't and won't respect people who still vote Republican.

+1 to all of this.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I know one guy who's conservative but left the Republican party, and even though we disagree on a lot, I still respect him as a person.

I also know a couple Republicans who hate Trump (and have voted for Democrats in the past couple elections) but still consider themselves Republicans and claim they're going to "take their party back" eventually...I think they're in denial and need to just start a new party.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
But all of them are currently voting Democrat

They're lying to you.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no they aren't. At least, the family member ones I'm sure aren't. They talk all the time about how they feel about the current Republican party. In some cases their views have changed a bit over the years. But mostly these are people who believe in the Republican economic system but not much else, and they've reached a point where the negatives outweigh the positives in their mind (for me that happened decades ago, but I still respect their willingness to pay attention).

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
They're still going to vote for Trump.

mostly these are people who believe in the Republican economic system but not much else

^^^^ because of that

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible you're right, but assuming you know the people in AYRT's life better than they do is really douchey and it makes you look bad.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
For the record, I know of at least 6 former Republicans who either haven't voted Republican at all (in Federal elections anyway) at least 6-8 years or who have made it very clear they think Trump is reprehensible and would never vote for him. Even the one who believes the Republican party can be saved thinks that the only way to do that is getting rid of Trump.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Except Trump isn't even good for Republican economic systems and only the crazies think he is.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
this depends on whether you thing "republican economic system" means "cutting rich taxes is good for regular white folks probably" or "ruthless delivery of wealth to the very top of the system". and the fact of the matter is that in PRACTICE the "republican economic system" has meant the latter for decades and decades, but Reagan managed to convince a lot of idiots that "trickle down economics" was TOTALLY the former. while doing the latter.

Trump is basically the best there has ever been at fulfilling the actual aims of the republican party. Pure grift.

some rank and file voters who couldn't see through Reagan manage to see through Trump, that's all.

Ah yes, every Republican is secretly drinking the crazy juice.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I mean

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Gods, you're why I hate some of my fellow Democrats.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-21 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think most Republicans are drinking the crazy juice openly.

But please feel free to elaborate.

ngl, I think people who hold conservative views but deal with the public have either burned out on the wretchedness of humanity or don't have enough empathy and need to be in a non-public facing job. that kinda faith in public institutions you have first hand knowledge don't serve people is just...too much for me.

and it doesn't help that they wrote him sorta like a modern day javert, military background and all.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-22 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care about his politics. He's a good actor; that's all I need to know.
