What are your favorites?

The Alpha Bitch and Lovable Alpha Bitch. I like when that archetype sincerely grows into a nice person, but if she stays mostly a bitch with "lovable" qualities then no thanks. (The male version applies too.)

In Japanese media, my least favorite is the tsundere whose default mode is dere. Default tsuns are hit or miss though.

Seconding the Tsundere point by a lot.

i dislike to abjectly hate any Bad Boy character type, especially if they're portrayed as 'romantic' or 'heroic' they're just douches, it's literally that deep.

Anti-Heroes I can find a bit grating too but I think that's all down to the writer, not the archetype itself.

similarly to no.1 I also can rarely stand the Jerk With A Heart Of Gold because again: they're just dicks.

all of other archetypes are 100% down to the writer, a good writer can make me love an archetype and a bad writer can make me dislike the exact same one.

I'm not a big fan of your asshole characters portrayed as likable (I made the Lovable Alpha Bitch comment above), but they aren't literally "just" as deep as being dicks. They're dicks who are good people. We don't have to like them or forgive their dickishness for their good points, but other people can and they're not wrong either. Your feelings don't override the way a character is written.

other ppl can like them, that doesn't make them deeper than just being massive dicks.

And you're as shallow as your reading of things, but that doesn't mean much, does it?

it's okay, i know ppl gotta make up shit that isn't there for that archetype, don't see the appeal of all that reaching myself but ppl can do what they like.

Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly is pretty great. Shawn from Psych. Rick from The Mummy.

If I had to choose one, Indiana Jones.

I'm a softy for any and all knights errant.

Villains who love what they do and take pleasure in it. Bad boy villains I guess, but in scifi and fantasy settings mostly. Over the top, dramatic, takes over the screen every time they are on it. Dark Lords, but not all of them. Not the angsty ones. The enthusiastic ones.

All loving hero. Chosen Ones. Really just heroic characters in general.

Boss who isn't the literal boss (is this a thing?, I think it is). Basically, characters who aren't actually the one in charge but act like it anyway. Who want and need to be in control of every situation. In a villain setting, the second in command who runs the show.

Corrupter characters, but only when they are villains/full on evil.

Action girl. Always.

Herald characters like Obi-Wan and Gandalf.

Mad scientists, especially as villains.

The McCoy.

Mentors.

Psychopaths and sociopaths, but only in scifi and fantasy. I need that fantastical element, I'm not into realistic psychopaths.

Seekers.

Superheroes and supervillains of course.

Tomboys.

Tragic heroes.

Least favorite are any black-and-white archetypes, e.g. All-Loving Hero, Dark Lord, Good King, Superhero, Supervillain.

Favorites are the types who could go either way, e.g. Anti-Hero, Lovable Rogue, Gentleman Thief, Trickster, Rebel, etc.

Lovable rogues and angry good girls.

SA - For favorites.

Manic Pixie Dream Girls.

Least are the hot quaint geeky girls often wearing glasses, military guys who are by the book, rebelous teens that don't aprove of their parent's new partner and are always angry

Faves: heroes with dark pasts, naive wide eyed charaters that are not stupid, crafty shady characters with secret plans

I think I agree with you on all of these

Least favorite: Smart person who's situationally stupid so that showwriters can grind an axe. See: Bones.

omg, Bones is the perfect example, it's like screenwriters can't be bothered to come up with something consistant with her characterization.
