I just haven't noticed that the writing has been bad? There have been a few episodes I didn't like, but that is true of every single Who series I've seen. And I'd actually say there aren't any episodes I outright hate, which makes him one up on previous eras.

See, I hated the spider episode (there was absolutely no resolution, which was just bizarre given the clear villain), and the whole "Tim Shaw" plot was anticlimactic as all hell. This new season had some stumbles but is looking up now, though!
