Re: SA -looks like the thread is collapsing so I figured it was safe-

Lol this is such a Bad Take. Perfect lives? Did you... not see... the entire show? Did the entire point go over your head? The point was that everyone has bad things to deal with, whether it be because they were born in poverty or because they were born into wealth, but everyone has the capacity to be good, despite their upbringings. The whole point of taking the test over and over was the great equalizer of privilege. What, because someone is privileged on earth, they don't deserve happiness if they truly earn it?

I don't understand how so many people are missing the concept of peace as a final destination as a good thing... not to mention the fact that the final door is an option, and not required.

I hear complaints about how the show is Philosophy 101 and yet so many people can't even grasp that.

NAYRT: Oh, I thought it was obvious they were going to pivot to Buddhism or Existentialism once Chidi introduced the alternate system. And once Hypatia started talking, it was fucking obvious where they were pivoting right to Buddhism with ultimate liberation as endgame.

SA: Although prior discussions here reveal that a lot of people are intensely attached to the idea of an afterlife eternal orgasms and milkshakes, and intensely hostile to the concept of liberation, so this reaction isn't a surprise.

Because we don't see it as "liberation". I don't get why it's so hard for some people to understand that other people interpret things differently.

Buddism is about death becoming reincarnation, not floating of into the sky as golden snowflakes. Existentialism is about making your own choices. Hypatia was killed by Christians, and her use is a complete insult that she's only here as she was known as a martyr for philosophy. Pythagorus would have been equally viable, the fact he dies because even when chased by murder's he refused to step across a field of bean's because believed them to contain human souls, the ultimate test. (but I digress...) The good place is about not being any specific religion, none of them are right. Your attempt to try and sound smart failed the second you started talking about knowing what they were planning. (especially being as ill-informed as you are)

Perfect lives? Did you... not see... the entire show?

The afterlife was the "perfect life" part, I'm not talking about anything else. Like you said, some of them had a lot of hardship to deal with, but then they finally got perfect lives, and they just threw it away.

What, because someone is privileged on earth, they don't deserve happiness if they truly earn it?

That is not at all what I said.

Did the entire point go over your head?

Whatever. I hate the "if you don't like something that claims to be deep, you just ~didn't understand it~" bullshit copout. People are allowed to not like things.

I don't understand how so many people are missing the concept of peace as a final destination as a good thing...

Because not everyone is interpreting it as "peace". I interpret it as people who have great lives (in the afterlife) and people who love them and are choosing to give it all up and hurt the people who love them for essentially no reason.

Interpretations need to be grounded in the actual text, not just pulled out of your ass because you're an atheist ironically offended that someone wouldn't choose millions of years of never-ending orgasms and milkshakes.
