I haven't seen the show, or read the book, so I can't say much for the ship, but I have seen a number of clips that does make it seem as if it didn't have much in the way of budget and styling. It doesn't help that I want to read the book first which I've heard is a lot better.

The book's good, but I wouldn't say it's definitively better than the TV show (or vice versa).

Semi-tangentially, there's an amusing three-way argument that GO book readers sometimes have: whether the book is great, or whether it's ok but would be a lot better if Gaiman had written it by himself, or whether it's ok but would be a lot better if Pratchett had written it by himself. ime, the argument usually gets heated without getting vicious, and is perfect popcorn-material.

Mmm, that is interesting. I keep trying to put it higher on my reading list, but keep getting distracted by other media. I have to say that hearing the fandoms interactions are popcorn-eating appropriate (without the need for fictional hazard pay) is a lot more compelling than any of the arguments I've made so far to make me read it!
