I never got why Zutara was such a thing, if any hero/villain ship made sense in that show it was Zuko/Aang given just how obsessive Zuko was over him, and I'm not sure he even really registered Katara as a person until he started trying to redeem himself.

(I don't think he registered Sokka either tbh, that boy was really laser-focused on Aang to begin with).

Because girls would rather project onto Katara than Aang.

Aang registered as more child-like than the other characters for a lot of people. He was the youngest, but they were close in age. But to a lot of people he was a kid whereas Katara and Zuko were teenagers. Also as someone said below people projected onto Katara. And Zuko had the most intense fights with Katara, and people like to ship characters who hate each other.

So you just ship Zuko/Aang to the point that any other ship doesn't look realistic?
