I’m fucking ecstatic that they’re back and I was thrilled to get tickets for their tour. I used to worry about getting old, but after hearing about people my age who have died due to illnesses or accidents, I’m starting to view my oldness as a blessing. They’re old, I’m old, but it’s okay ‘cause we’re still alive and kicking.

ROFLMAO at the idea that 40s is "old"

Oh my sweet summer child... you should see MCR fans on twitter and reddit. It was months of "OMG, they're SO OLD. We've all got to reduce our expectations!" as if they expected the 42 year old dude to shuffle out in adult diapers with a walker just because he's 42. *sigh*

My daughter is a huge MCR fan, and she feels the same - she saw them in concert at a small venue, she was right up front and it was when they were super-popular. She still loves them and is excited for more music but she doesn't want to edge out that 'perfect' memory of when she saw them.

I grew up in restrictive family without money, so I never got to see concerts in my youth, let alone MCR. So I an so excited to see them now; I feel like I get to live out part of a childhood I didn't get to fully experience. and yeah they're older, but that makes it better somehow. We're both old and enjoying something we loved.

Oh wow, I hadn't looked at pix lately but you're right, Gerard really doesn't look like he's been taking care of himself. That's too bad. I'm the same age he is and I have def watched men I know go through an early 40s phase like that...hope he gets through it ok. Maybe getting back on the road with the band will help?

Not the OP but I looked him up, too. I hope this is "getting older and being happily married and not giving a fuck" and not anything to do with health issues. He looks a bit rough. I still love him, though.

NAYRT I hope it's the "not giving a fuck" thing too, especially since he had body image issues during Danger Days and was apparently starving himself to fit the look.

I hope so bc this looks less IDGAF and more lack of bathing and...jeez I hope he's sober. I would like him to be ok.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's not like he was bathing regularly at any other time that they were a band, even when he was sober. Personal Hygiene and Geeway do not historically go together.

Yeah, I get this. When the x-files came back I felt a bit this way. I wanted to remember mulder and Scully as they were. If I'd liked the revival I would have gotten over my existential "even our heros are diminished by time" flailing, but it's definitely a feeling I had about the revival.

I also have been feeling that about Matthew Good lately. He just hasn't aged well at all, and his mental health issues are still very much a problem for him, and it's hard not to feel saddened by it, and also uncomfortable because of how it makes me reflect on my own aging and my own issues.

I sort of get it, but at the same time I'm thrilled that I don't feel like it about any band or artist? I didn't have the money to attend concerts as a teenager, I am able to attend at elast some concerts as a 36-year-old. And everyone I used to like as a teenager is older, but as long as they still play well and have the energy, I'm there for it. I don't care about how they look. (I also like a lot of artists who are two decades older then me - I've never had a chance to see them when they were young, I'm just glad they're still around, because not all all of their generation are.)

The last time I saw them in concert was Honda Civic, the show after they lost their most recent drummer and while it was an MCR show, it was relatively shitty. Nothing is going to compare to some of those small shows I got to go to early on, but it'd be nice to get the bad taste out of my mouth, metaphorically speaking.
