Well, okay. Is it not possible to find a middle ground and talk about parts that you both like that are in both versions?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I do for the most part but it's mostly that I've been starting to get burnt out on this fandom and would prefer to move on but I don't want to be rude to my friend because I was the one who kept bringing it up back in the day.

I get wanting to be cool and understanding about peoples' new fandom enthusiasm because you were once in their shoes, but if you're getting burned out... just move on. You're not obligated to stick around in a fandom you're no longer into just out of a sense of duty. Let your friend find other enthusiastic new fans to squee with, you'll both enjoy the experience more.

Well, OP, to me here's enough butthurt coming through your secret to make me think that, deep down, your need to move on is motivated at least a little by a desire to punish your friend for not doing the fandom your way.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Nah not really but thanks for playing. Then again, using the word butthurt makes it quite obvious just what kind of person you are.

ayrt

Well that's fine, it's not like you can be into something forever, especially since the show and the book are very different in a lot of areas. Maybe just hint around that you're just not that interested in it anymore, or not fond of the show in general, it has been a few years after all. If you still feel bad, you could still listen to them rave about it from time to time, but let them know that you don't have much feelings about it anymore?

I understand being not quiiiiiite matched up with friends on fandom preferences, but it's a little ungenerous of you, OP. What ships do you like and which ones does she like?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not like I'm telling her any of this or try to rain on her parade. I'm just not much into this fandom anymore and am not overly interested in extensively talking or squeeing about a version of the canon I never was much invested in in the first place. My ship would possibly out me because it's a rarepair but her favourite ship is is Jiang Cheng/Lan Xichen and that's a ship I neither like nor can really get behind because it's too "pair the spares" for me.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, good on you for keeping this to yourself. I guess I can't imagining preferring a friend never find a fandom they're passionate about just to save myself from hearing about it. Excusing yourself from discussion you don't enjoy seems like a better solution.

That said, I can't see that ship, either.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
If said friend was adamant about not being willing to even try something you recommended and suddenly come and gush how this new fandom they just got into is super awesome months later and keep bringing it up after being super dismissive about it before then yeah, I guess that made me a little bitter.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess it did. I get it, I really do. It's hard not to take it personally when you really love something and your friend(s) don't seem to be interested in your recs... until they "discover" it on their own and suddenly NOW they're all into it. That's tough.

I still hope for your own sake that you move on and don't force yourself to take part in a fandom you're no longer interested in. Being bitter and resentful about it can't be great for your friendship.

da

But that's clearly not the case, since The Untamed is in a completely different medium with significant changes made. It's perfectly normal to not be interested in something in one format, but be willing to get into it when it's adapted to a format you find more enjoyable or accessible.
