"But the censors" is a very valid reason in this case aka if they didn't comply, the best case scenario would have been that it didn't air and the worst case scenario that it didn't air AND that people would have gone to jail. It's not a Western tv show just pandering to a conservative viewership.

I have a lot of sympathy with being tired of queerbaiting (though, I've seen a lot of people crying about it when it wasn't even the case, so I'm weary) but this was absolutely not the case here. They did what they could (look at other BL novels they've adapted and you'll see the difference - no shoehorned in female love interest and they're both alive in the end).
