Inspired by the last secret, what are some shows, movies or books that are ACTUALLY intelligent?

Now I'm not even sure what 'intelligent' means when talking about a show. That the characters are? The plot itself? Or the writing in general?

I'd say Broadchurch. The Americans. Breaking Bad, maybe, just because that show is continuity porn.

Babylon 5 has always felt like a smart show to me.

If you don't mind the blast from the past, I'd say Daria. Well, the first three seasons, most of season four, and part of season 5 and the movies. Obviously, some ideas/portrayals are dated but it's still worth watching.

Fringe immediately came to mind.
