Just because they're framed (vaguely) the same way visually doesn't make them 'a parallel' and people really need to stop saying it, but I always feel petty if I point that out.

And when someone needs to flip the image/reverse the movement of the gif to prove the parallel, that's even worse.

I agree that the writing is bad. I don't think it has anything to do with being too "woke". It's just shitty writing. If it was better writing and still "woke", it would be fine.

And it's not like Doctor Who is historically apolitical. I mean, speaking personally, my favorite run of the show is the Cartmel era which was avowedly political. So the idea that being political is a problem for Who as a franchise I don't agree with. Chibnall is just a shitty writer.

And also, a lot of "genius" characters really... aren't. It's often really hard to show a genius character being a genius believably - in the same way, although maybe not to the same extent, it can be really hard to demonstrate a fictional rapper being a genius rapper, or a fictional comedian being a genius comedian, like in Studio 60, or whatever, because the rapper or comedian is only going to be as good as the person writing them. Very tricky.
