This so much. A good example of this is with Tolkien and Arwen and Luthien. Tolkien parallels them in a few senses, but they are in no way completely identical. They look similar, Arwen is Luthien's descendents, and Arwen makes the same choice Luthien does to be mortal in order to be with a human partner. That's it. That's where their similarities lie. Tolkien never says they are the same person. Luthien is a whole lot of things that Arwen isn't (badass for example, despite what the movies tried to portray).
