Would it kill people to acknowledge that people write what turns them on?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-16 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
RIGHT?!

yes, bc random fandom porn is now considered FEMINIST EXPRESSION, rather than the self-indulgent ID-stories they actually are. so we have ppl bending over backwards arguing their their kinks are progressive instead of... their kinks that turn them on.

DA

I absolutely understand that people write what turns them on. I don't understand loving characters in a piece of media and then writing what are basically OCs and saying they are those characters. Well, no, o do understand it, but it really annoys me. If the author wants to write just stereotypes and the characters don't matter, I feel that they should write original things. If I am reading fanfic for something, I would prefer for it to be in character. I have read many fics that incorporate kink in ways that make it seem in character, or an extension of the character.

I understand I have lost this "battle". though, and some people prefer the tropes over the characters, so I just back button and don't comment or anything, but it annoys me.

DA - I get this, and for the most part I even agree with it.

I think a lot of people ITT are arguing more with the people making moral judgments about what it means about them if they like this kind of thing. You simply not liking it, and finding it kind of annoying and tiresome, is not something I have any issue with at all. IMO that's a perfectly reasonable way to feel. The fandom I am currently in is all feminization, infantilization, and daddy kink for the bottom, and ultra dom daddy stuff for the top, and I really, really, really don't like it at all, so yeah, I definitely get this. (But also, I'm not going to assume the people who do like it like it because of internalized homophobia or whatever.)
