Same, haha.

Except I've never had a panic attack at being left alone with a baby because I'd never let that happen lol

I don't either nowadays, but when I was like 13-14 I got elected against my wishes and without any sort of training to watch the nursery at church during Bible study. Me alone with like 5-6 kids in diapers, some of which were infants, which was not only probably illegal but against church policy, and when I pointed that out I was told to deal with it (because don'tcha know I'm female and that automatically means I am Good With Kids and have a secret mothering instinct just waiting to blossom), the parents are 'only just down the hall if you need them'.

Long story short, an hour later my mom found me sitting in the corner by myself in a rocking chair pretty much like a Vietnam vet in the middle of a flashback, while all the kids were screaming upset and getting themselves into trouble and I'm sure a couple needed diaper changes.
(None of them came to any harm.)

The subject of me watching after children in any fashion was never again mentioned after that. Ever. In any context. By anyone.

This is such a vivid picture - I particularly like the phrase "like a Vietnam vet." Early teen you was not prepared for such a baptism of fire. I'm glad they got the message that some people are not cut out to be childminders. I bet you're good with animals, though.

It never happened to me. It was so obvious that I couldn't hack it that no parent I knew would trust me to look after their kids. I *was* once asked to, at work, and my expression was so completely horrified that a manager from another department offered to do it instead.

It was pretty obvious since first grade that I was not cut out for babies, and yet all the signs were ignored, and well I hate to say 'I told you so' but.
Seriously though I spent the entire rest of that night just crying because I was so traumatized over the whole situation that should never have happened in the first place.

FWIW I'm a veterinary technician now and the only time I see young children nowadays is if clients bring them to appointments with them. Which is a constant reminder of why I don't deal with children willingly. :)

I've told people I am not good with kids and they just stared at me like I was speaking some language that was completely incoherent to them. I know how you feel.

Now that's a happy ending - apart from the non-goat kids. Hope there aren't too many of those.
