Not everyone has similar standards, and if the person wants to do whatever they're doing, then let them. We're not here to be the judge of that. Just because you can do it, and they have different ideals and are content with them, doesn't mean there's any reason to feel superior over those who can't achieve the same.

It's not a matter of superiority, and I haven't acted like it is (speaking only for myself, not the other chick), nor is it a matter of different standards. This secretposter's "standards" are that of one-dimensional characters (as everyone fictional is) with clean-cut flaws and personalities one can WRITE.

She needs to learn that real people are not and cannot be like that. It's an unhealthy attitude.

I'd like to point out, not if they're written well. If written poorly, sure, one-dimensional characters exist. Writers who know what they're doing know that and avoid it.

I don't mean like, one-dimensional personalities with no facets of character or depth whatsoever ^^; If you prefer me be geometrically correct, then a two-dimensional character is not originally flat and uninteresting unlike today's incarnation of the word, so kinda my bad for using a term that's been updated.

In any case, my point is whether a character is shitty written or well-rounded he still is lacking the literally billions of features that make up REAL PEOPLE, and thus it is ridiculous to hold that standard.

In fact, they're not even in the same ballpark. It's like comparing an orange to a football stadium.

*dies* I find it kinda ironic that you say that with an RP journal. If they lack all the features that make up REAL PEOPLE, then how is roleplay even possible?

I don't really care either way about the actual secret, but as a writer I like to think that my characters, and other people's characters, ARE real people. Not like, walking around and talking to me and existing on Earth real people (not that crazy yet), but you know, their own entities. Real people that someone made up that just don't physically exist. And if they're -not- that, then I (or whoever) am doing something wrong, and they're flatter than they -should- be.

But I'll stop before I just randomly metababble for pages on writing or something. *dies*

I get where you're coming from completely, since I'm a big RPer and fanfic writer myself. While we can strive to make them as realistic and far from archetype as possible, though, the depth of human reality and interaction prevents anyone fictional from being completely real.

But like I said, we can always try to get there :D
