Especially if the characters in question are supposed to be smart. This is done a lot by writers who need to have conflict or something and are too lazy or incompetent to write a scenario that's credible, so instead, characters catch a bad case of the stupids.

One of my favourite fics in the 'soulmate' genre has the hero be the soulmate of the main 3 villains. When she figures this out, she goes and tells her closest friends and allies. They all go "That's messed up" and rally around her, because they're not terrible people and fate sucks! And this is, like, the second chapter! I was so happy when they got that out of the way~♥

Black guy dies first, bury your gays, and things in that family.

Also I don't know if there is a trope name for it but sad stories where they take an innocent character like a puppy or a little kid and get their hopes up and then destroy those hopes in the most savage way possible - makes me cry every time and I don't think it's necessarily bad writing, maybe it's the very essence of tragedy fiction, but dammit it fucking hurts. I'm looking at you, All Summer in a Day.

Pretending to be lovers or married. It's a popular trope and I just don't find it interesting.

People helping the protag dying soon after. As in, a guy who hides protag in his house would get killed by the forces chasing the protag.

A barely redeemed villain or a betrayer dying after confessing the error of their ways. So overdone.

Bratty princess and a power hungry dethroned royal heir. I got kinda tired of cliche Royalty stories latelly.

Characters entering relationships when they are fucked up and clearly not ready for a new gf or bf. Their love interest should jonestly wait untill they're in a better place to start anything.

Weird book synopsis/warnings

So I got some book recs from a friend and have been reading the synopses on Goodreads trying to figure out what to read next and came across this:

"Please note that this story contains very explicit descriptions of erotic and sexual situations written for the sole purpose of extreme genital arousal which will lead to self-pleasure. Mature readers only."

and it's completely cracking me up for some reason.
