What makeup brand do you all use for moisturizer?

For daytime, I use a Target knock-off of Aveeno's "Positively Radiant Sheer Daily Face Moisturizer." It has SPF 30 and evens out my skintone to a slight degree (not as much as makeup would, but it's nice).

For nighttime, I use elf's "Nourishing Night Cream."

(It's also worth noting I have eczema, so those are good if your skin tends to be dry.)

I use a lot of Laneige stuff. I have hella dry skin (and Canadian winters don't help) and it's the first brand I've found that helps while not feeling like I slathered grease on my face.

I've been using Nivea lately. Generally I just pick up whatever's on sale, but I'll probably stick with this one for a while, it's quite nice.

For nighttime I use CeraVe PM facial moisturizer. It's not quite as heavy as I'd like for my dry skin, but it has a good ingredients list and it's inexpensive compared to most other well-formulated moisturizers.

For a daytime moisturizer (a moisturizer with sunscreen)...ugh, good luck.

I really love Clinique's Pep-Start Daily UV Protector, but fucking Clinique discontinued it in my country. It might still be available in the US though.

Honestly, I have never been able to find a moisturizer with sunscreen that doesn't suck in one way or another. The most common problems are that they're way too expensive, and/or the texture feels like smearing glue on your face, and/or they pill and ball up when you try to apply makeup over top of them.

If you have no issue with the whole paste texture, CeraVe also makes a daytime moisturizer that is well-formulated and excellently priced. Personally, I find the texture unbearable and it tends to ball up under my foundation, but everybody's different, it might work better for you.

Another tip: If you have a moisturizer you like, but you wish it was a little more intensely moisturizing, you can pick up a face oil from The Ordinary and mix a couple of drops into your moisturizer to beef it up a little. All the facial oils at The Ordinary are very reasonably priced (under $10).

However, DON'T do this if your moisturizer is also your SPF, because adding the oil is likely to reduce the efficacy of the SPF.

Or you can add a drop or two of plain glycerin, I've found it to cause less issues than adding oil (certain formulas/ingredients really don't play well with oil).

I've never had a problem using oils that are common for use on the face (argan, rosehip seed, marula, etc.), but I don't mix them into the bottle of moisturizer. I mix a couple of drops with a pump of moisturizer before applying it.

I prefer it to glycerin because oil has greater potential benefit to the skin. But if you have sensitive skin and oil has been known to cause problems for you, I can see glycerin being a good substitute.

CeraVe sounds like something I'd like to try.

I definitely recommend it. It's very much a cult classic brand in the skincare community. The day and night moisturizers especially are known for being full of good ingredients at a drugstore price - and none of this 30ml tube nonsense. The serum is kind of expensive, and is a small size, IIRC. But the moisturizer is...90ml I think? And probably around $10 - $12 US?

They won't feel better on your skin than plenty of the other drugstore options. But the ingredients list is superior to most drugstore options. I'm fairly into skincare, and one annoying truth of skincare is that what feels best when applied isn't always what's actually treating your skin right and "feeding" it the ingredients it's going to benefit from over time. (Obviously if a product that isn't supposed to sting stings, or gives you a rash or breaks you out, that's bad. But a product that feels really great when you put it on isn't necessarily doing more for your skin than a product that just feels fine when you put it on.)

I use Rilastil, an Italian brand with hialuronic component. Ordering it is a hastle so I'll likely get some Logona when I go to Germany next time. I have this idea to try a cream with Argan oil and hialuronic acid both, however I'm feeling lazy.

I don't really use makeup brands' moisturizers, but I can say that TONYMOLY's "Panda's Dream Rose" is like heaven on my face. I have very tricky compound skin and this really does take care of everything and leaves my face feeling soft and plush and refreshed. I absolutely adore it.

Is it ever okay to ask if you can finish someone's WIP for them?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-26 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I sometimes find myself wanting to write the ending to an unfinished story or series by another author, and I've never been brave enough to ask.

I mean, the worst they can say is no. And even then, you could probably write it and they couldn't stop you. Though if you posted it, that might be another matter.

I kinda get it though. Some WIPs look abandoned af. I'd started thinking about making a comm where people can dump their unfinished WIPs and let whoever at them, but then I remember LJ is all but dead and DW is sorta? And I'll never figure out tumblr for that purpose.

I'm thinking that the same people to leave their work unfinihsed also would be unavailable for questions about sequels. I've frequently seen writers who say their work is "inspired by" or a "sequel to" or an "ending for" someone's unfinished work. Nobody seems to mind. As long as you link to / acknowledge your inspiration, I don't see how it's that much different than writing fanfic in the first place...

This is how I would do it. If the author looks alive I MIGHT ask for permission, but personally I feel like no one has the right to deny you unless it's for publishing purposes or their work is so unique in the fanfic space that they could claim plagiarism. I imagine that's very, very rare...

I do this all the time in my head. Particularly with one-shots and open ended fic. Sometimes I'll write down base ideas and structure it all out, but (as with most all of my fic writing attempts) it pretty much sticks to this stage.

I had a pretty bad cold not too long ago and was half delirious from that and the fact I couldn't sleep and ended up imagining a whole scene-by-scene continuation for one of my favourite fics from 10PM to 7AM. It became a fix-it of sorts (for events that happen later on in canon) and the only reason I stopped is because I couldn't exactly remember the order of the canon itself... I still think about it even though I've forgotten a lot of it after I got over my cold. If I do ever manage to write/finish anything it would probably be that, tbh.

I'd say your best bet is to write it out/finish it, and maybe send it to the author (or a rough plan of what you want to happen) to see if they like it. That way they know you have something solid to go on and can off offer ideas that they planned to have happen to help. If they say no, and you still want to post it you can alter it so that it's inspired by their fic (or exists in the same universe) though not necessarily the continuation you were hoping to make.

Honestly, if someone ever asked me that, I would be thrilled. My unfinished stuff is unfinished not because I didn't want to finish it, but because I just lost the momentum/interest/direction to do so. It would be awesome if someone else wanted to pick it up and do what I wasn't able to do so that readers could have a finished story.

I think it is okay to ask and I think some authors would be fine with it if they are truly stuck with story and some more would be okay with it once they got past that knee-jerk possessiveness of my story and remembered what fanfic is (I mean, I can't imagine they ask the creator of a show that got cancelled if they could write the further adventures of the show's characters).
