As a kid, I always thought "to chuck wood" in the context of this tongue-twister meant to eat wood somehow. Maybe I was thinking of the use of the word "chuck" to mean "food" in other contexts, like "chuck wagon." It wasn't until the Geico woodchuck commercials that I was forced to consider that I knew perfectly well that the verb "to chuck" means "to throw."
