I mean it sounds like a weird sort of OCD, but as long as you aren't taking it out on the people commenting on your fic then I don't see much problem with it.
Do you tend to keep your responses short so people aren't inclined to respond to you?

Personally I get very anxious about reviewing, I don't know the courtesy and get overwhelmed very easily, so even when the author responds in a conversational way I don't usually say anything back. If it's a multichaptered fic I have responded to their comment in the next chapter, but then again it's rare for that to happen. (I am always happy when people respond to my comments though!)
I'm curious if this is a fandom by fandom thing or not as well?

It definitely is a weird thing, and i don't say anything to commenters bc i know it's ridiculous and they're just being friendly. I do try to keep replies to replies short but not rude.

Don't worry about reviewing courtesy! Most writers are glad to get any sort of comment! :)
