But yeah, I think I know the feeling. I used to dream of having adventures on the Enterprise. When I realised Chekov was hot...that was confusing, but tolerable. But, y'know, any childhood fandom revisited will be strange. Like the first time John Lennon's little scream during "Twist and Shout" becomes sexy rather than cool.
108. I hate myself for shipping it, but I still do. Though honestly, I think that's the point of the whole movie. I honestly think that at no point were they making an actual thriller--they just wanted to hit all the Hollywood points in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way, and make it as hot as possible. Like...fanservice plus funny, I guess.
113. Same sideburn hater as before? C'mon, some of us find side-scruff hot.
115. Oddly enough, even though that was all I knew of Bowie for years, I like Bowie as a character/person more than I like Jared (though I do like Jared). I think it was his duet with Bing Crosby that did it for me. Or else "The Laughing Gnome."
121. Thank you. Honestly, that's what really turned me off of slash. It seems like when a show gets slashed, it gets the heck slashed out of it. It's not just Hawkeye and BJ in the Swamp--Charles and Klinger and in the Supply Tent, and Radar the-ever-virginal is doing something to Henry, and and Mulcahy is probably with Kliner or Hawkeye or whoever's left, etc.
Although my first real exposure to any slash was with Gundam Wing. What, really? All five of 'em? Serious?
127. I think it's a little more understandable for House because House is an ensemble show. Oh, yeah, title character sells it, but it's about all of 'em. Plus, it's a formula-show. Doctor Who is neither of these things. It is about the Doctor, and it has no formula-per-episode short of "Doctor tries to save a world."

132. Actually, I think he looks ridiculous, but I'll take that reason over the idea that any cast dunamic could be better than the UK version. They sparked.
And I have a hard time imagining that there's a better way to do Sam's "time travel." Any more mysterious, and it seems like eventually you'll have to explain it exactly, and that would kill the point.
143. Go to an art college. Seriously. I miss having that kind of banter with my fellow art-nerd roommates.

148. If that's her washing his costume, I dunno, it doesn't bug me at all. I don't know if it's true or not, but my Dad says he remembers that Aunt May would mend Spidey's costume for him on the sly (and Pete never knew). I think that it makes Spiderman more...domestic. I don't mean "a woman's place" and all. Just that, well, it does need to get done, and MJ is helping out. Pete probably washes his own stuff just as often. But having Aunt May mend the costume sometimes, or MJ wash it sometimes makes it seem like they're a part of his whole life, mundane and fantastic.
The super-sexy MJ statues do bug me, though. Considering that she's Pete's wife, I dunno, having her pert bum in low-riders and huge cleavage falling out, all in touchable 3D for nerdly hands seems a bit...vouyeristic.
Hang on...that art... Is that Buckingham? Didn't he do a run on Spiderman ages ago? I mean, it's nowhere near as good as he is now, but the faces... that really looks like his style.

Well, as far as the movie goes, I don't think it really mattered that he was a "good actor." Jareth was supposed to be the strange, otherworldly...thing. So I always thought that if his acting was stilted, it was because, well, he was sort of acting human-ish for Sarah's benefit. But really, Jareth always seemed exactly as he should be. The heart of the movie is all the other characters.
Maybe it's an age thing as well--growing up on Labyrinth is different than seeing it when you're older.
But then, if you mean you also agree with the OP about not being fond of Bowie...well, then I'm gonna say give it time, because I wasn't really a fan of his music until I got to college.

I don't care about slash. I care about characters. If it seems like a character has genuine chemistry with another, then I don't care what gender they are. I tend to prefer het ships, but I have a few of each kind.
But as to letting other people's interest turn you off of something...have you not been in fandom that long? Any time there's something that the masses gather around shouting how wonderful it is, there's always another group of people telling them to shut the heck up and let them suss it out for themselves.
