I think part of the harshness comes from the uncanny valley effect that can happen when you see characters you recognize that are almost, but not quite, right. It’s the same thing that can make the knockoffs of trademarked cartoon characters you see at cheap fairs or painted on the walls of daycare centers funny or creepy, except with the added awkwardness of trying to look sexy.

You see, I wish I knew what you were talking about! I honestly think I might just be that lucky as to not come across such works. Though at the same time I guess I can see how certain characters taken out of their drawn element might cause some whiplash for certain people. I just can't understand how it makes that much of a difference, I guess.

Maybe it's because I generally draw in portraiture that I can just imagine any one character in my style... Like the thing is that I think I know what you're getting at, I'm just having a hard time conjuring it up in my mind, I guess;;
