Not being overly interested in female characters =/= having a negative bias against other, real women.

And insinuating other women just hate female characters because they're mean is actually having a negative bias against them so... yeah, you're not helping.

I guess you're saying internalized misogyny is not a thing, and even if it were it wouldn't affect a person's opinions in any way.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
No I'm very obviously not. I'm saying reality and fandom are seperate things and people don't exactly react to real people the same way they react to fictional people. And I'm also saying that insinuating most women hate female characters because of internalised misogyny is actually pretty misogynistic as well because it feeds in the whole "women are all just catty bitches who can't but hate other women" shit.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That UN study doesn't say 90% of women are catty bitches, it says 90% of women are biased against women. What is your point? Is it racist to point out that most people are racist?

Fiction may not be real but it's pretty wild to try and claim it has zero correlation with people's real life thoughts and opinins.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Fiction having some correlation with reality and applying one study about real life point blank to fandom behaviour even though there are myriads of reasons why women might not be tgat interested in female characters are not the same things. And if you're not doing this, why were you even bringing it up? And no, the study doesn't say all women are catty bitches but pretending that 90 % of women have biases against other women also doesn't say it's all due to internalized misogyny and yet that's the main thing you took away from it.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you know what misogyny means my friend

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I do. Do you?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
What are those myriad reasons why female characters are, almost across the board, less popular in fandom?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
First of all, I'd like a statistic that proves they actually are less popular across the board. Because that feels like a vast overexaggeration based on your personal feelings.
And there are plenty of reasons. Some are already here in this thread and you'll plenty more if you actually look for it. Are some of them based in internalized misogyny? Probably. But to pretend that that's more or less the only reason why a woman might not care about female characters is not just wrong, it's also doing women a huge disservice.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
How on earth can one find a statistic for that that meets your standard?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure that's not what AYRT said. Painting all women with the same brush that they must hate women because they're not interested in all-women fandoms is pretty damn misogynistic.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
>Painting all women with the same brush that they must hate women
There's no mention of "all women" or that they "must hate women"

>not interested in all-women fandoms
There's no mention of "all-women fandoms"

You are very desperate to strawman this argument

(Anonymous) 2020-03-11 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, that ~90% of women~ have negative feelings towards women just because they didn't like some (or even all) women in their respective fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I'm more interested in male characters because all my real life friends are female. Men are like alien creatures to me sometimes, and that's more interesting in fiction. As you can see, if anything, my real-life issues are with men.
