People freaking out over toilet paper here. It is insane.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-13 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
My mom went to but toilet paper yesterday on our normal grocery day and the shelves were empty. She asked my dad to try and find just a couple rolls, only what we needed. He came back with literally $50 worth of toilet paper and we have no idea where to put it.

I work at a grocery store. We ran out of toilet paper. We got a shipment in last night. We had people calling and asking if we could save some for them. (We didn't.) Even limiting it to one package (whether a single roll or multi roll) per person, we were down to only having the single rolls of the cheap stuff by 1pm or so.

And don't get me started on all the other things people are hoarding and freaking out about. I work in the accounting office, but they pulled me to run register all day today because it was beyond ridiculous.

I went to the grocery store and the whole paper aisle had been cleaned out. No toilet paper, no paper towels, no napkins, nothing. Shit's crazy.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-13 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
This would be a literal shit time to run out, but on the other hand, people are acting like coronavirus causes epic diarrhea shitstorms or something. Unless they use toilet paper instead of tissues, like I do, and are anticipating turning into snot fountains.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-13 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I haven't been to the stores this week, but I actually have the runs and I keep thinking, "Oh god, what if I run out and then there's none at the stores?!"

WHY ARE PEOPLE HOARDING TP? It's a fricking respiratory virus!

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?

I saw a tweet yesterday that said something like, "What a fucking year this week has been."

My general comment for today is:

*Cough cough cough hack cough splutter* ... Ta ma de!

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that’s pretty much what was in my head all day today.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, apparently this is all justified and anyone with a rational disposition about it is just a Trump enthusiast.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not worried about myself personally dying but I am worried about a major disruption to my personal life, a huge disruption to the broader economy, and a major threat to a lot of immuno-compromised and older people's lives based on a disease that objective facts would argue is highly contagious, but please let me know whether or not those concerns are rationally justified.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently they don't believe the scientists or medical experts, but no, they're totally not a Trump supporter!

(Anonymous) 2020-03-13 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
You must be a right wing propaganda victim. I'm sorry. I was told just yesterday that nobody acting like this is doing it out of unnecessary or inflated levels of mass paranoia, we should all be acting like a nuclear strike is imminent because the TV tells us to. This is a simple flu after all, I can't wait for them to declare the common cold a pandemic as well. That way we can all live underground in tunnels, far away from the big bad infected world above us.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-13 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not worried about dying, but I am worried about what this could end up doing to me financially should things get shut down for longer than two weeks. I can afford to miss work for two weeks, maybe even a month if I stretch it, but beyond that? I don't know what I'd do. I've got bills to pay and those aren't just magically going to go away.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-12 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, pretending that something that's already really bad and is going to get way worse is completely fine is totally rational. *eyeroll*

Is this about some breaking new specific news or just the terrible state of the world lately?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing specific just the composite of it all
