I'm not the biggest basketball fan, but I casually follow my alma mater and always love seeing them in the NCAA tournament. So crushed for all the seniors who ended their careers like this.

I don't care at all for sports but I live in a college town with a college that regularly does very well in the Big 10, so the cancellation of the tournament means a lot of bars and restaurants are dead as doornails. Many are laying off workers (who are clearly not the workers who can weather a layoff) or outright closing. that, to me, sucks massive donkey balls. I don't have the money to eat out every night or I would support them just to make sure they get through this downturn.

I am supposed to go on vacation April 28th to California to see my GF, and leave for London on the 5th of May, but that is looking less and less likely. Plus BTS concert at the beginning of May that they haven't cancelled yet, but who knows... :(

Well the 2020 Chess Candidates Tournament is still schedule to go ahead (or at least it was last time I checked five hours ago) but I'll be bummed if it ends up getting canceled.

Other than that, NBA. I mean, for God's sake can you imagine if they just let the Toronto Raptors continue to be NBA champions by default? It's horrifying.

I’m worried about San Diego Comic Con. I know it’s not until July but we just had our first possible community-acquired case here and the county banned gatherings of more than 250 people at least through May. Also Wondercon was postponed.

I had a trip planned for Disneyland next week, but that’s not happening anymore. I was also looking forward to Yallwest and the Festival of Books. The Festival of Books got postponed, but Yallwest was outright cancelled for this year. It’s disappointing, but I feel worse for my friend who had a flight booked for Japan to see My Chemical Romance. The festival they were gonna play at has been cancelled and she has no desire to go to Japan now given the situation there, but she’s not sure she can get all her money back.

Aw, Mulan is postponed. Suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but I was really excited about that. I was looking forward to braving empty theaters with my hand sanitizer.

I wasn't looking forward to New Mutants per se, but I swear to God I saw a trailer for it before Black Panther two years ago, and it's bothering me more than it should that it hasn't been released yet. whatareyouwaitingfor.gif

the events I can understand but why the fuck are they cancelling filming of shows and movies?? ugh. thank god none of them are shows or movies I give a shit about but I'm just ugh over the level of over-caution.

Filming of shows and movies involves close contact between lots of people: actors, stunt people, makeup artists, wardrobe people, extras, camera crews, interns, catering people, janitorial staff... I don’t work in entertainment so I’m sure I’m missing some people’s jobs, but it’s not an overabundance of caution. It’s trying to slow down the spread of the virus so the number of sick people doesn’t outstrip the number of hospital beds and health care personnel.
