Maybe you don't like her because she's a horrible person, regardless of gender or sexual exploits.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-20 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
that's not what OP's secret said tho - they aren't bothered by the character's actions in practice so much as it's this woman doing it and acknowledges this feeling as irrational

ayrt

Not really, like it sounds like OP is just trying to find half a dozen reasons why they could like her, while every reason is legitimate enough, and that they also acknowledge that. Just maybe that there's a chance they could like her if she wasn't a girl even though that isn't likely.

OP literally said she'd like Yenn if she were a dude.

Make your own secret to discuss your issues with the character. This one's about Not-You.

I thought this comm was all about it being OK to like villains and asshole characters

(Anonymous) 2020-03-21 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
no anon, that only applies to men.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-23 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
I could easily forgive being "horrible", but she's whiny and selfish, and for me that means weak, and maybe it's self-esteem issue, but seeing weak female leads always make me angry towards them :/

(Anonymous) 2020-03-20 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're on the cusp of a major revelation here.

If it's not her actions themselves then maybe it's time to ask yourself why it's her being a woman makes them unappealing enough that it makes you hate here while a male character would not inspire the same.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-20 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite: if she was a guy I'd have hated her, but for whatever reason I am far more lenient towards lady assholes than I am male ones. Not really sure why but at the same time it's fiction so whatever, I'll enjoy her being a mess and seeing where her story goes.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-21 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you there, bud. I like to see a woman ~strut~.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-21 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT.

Let them be messy and awful and I will adore them because fuck-it we can be terrible too. And bonus points for Yennifer because she's Hot.

OP

I'd like to note that this was written before the final two episodes. I really really loved her in those episodes.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-21 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe you would hate her regardless of her gender and you've just internalized fandom's constant insistence that every female character who's hated would be loved if they were male.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-21 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
This may not apply at all to you (as you don't mention any of your feelings regarding Geralt), but I know that when I was younger, any female character (that I couldn't necessarily identify with or want to be like) that had a relationship with my favorite/the male character I crushed on was automatically denied. I would find reasons to dislike her, hate on her, roll my eyes whenever she was being cool/masculine (that's its own thing) or doing something that the hero might have done, etc.

I read your post, so maybe it's nothing to do with that and more to do with other things? Anyway, haven't seen this show yet, but I want to.

I think I would have liked her more if she wasn't involved in Geralt's story.

I really liked her story, and how she self-sabotages so easily, but when she's onscreen with Geralt I feel we're getting Geralt's perspective of who she is. That causes a weird dissonance for me because she stops being the hero of her own tale and is kind of reduced to a threateningly sexy love interest. She's just... boring, with him.

Geralt becomes boring too, with her. Jaskier doesn't though! And I enjoy her interactions with him too.
