There's a person in my latest fandom who is most likely 12 at the oldest, and it's really noticeable because all the other active fans are adults. Every time I see them, I cringe, and then I think "wasn't I exactly like this? I was a 12-year-old on the internet too once." And then I realized that the difference is that, while I definitely was cringeworthy, I would hang out with other 12-year-olds who were almost as bad. That's why younger people are so easy to spot now: not because I'm older, but because my fandoms skew older, and I'm usually talking to adults, so a preteen sticks out a lot more.
