Outside of the US, people are usually referred to by their actual ethnic or national group - Berber, Tutsu, Hausa, Fula, San - not just as 'black'.
African-Americans forming their own distinct cultural identity off a history of being violently separated from that of their ancestors is a fine and wonderful thing; pretending that there is some sort of global black culture, some fundamental bond between all the 1.2 billion people of Africa that comes down to 'blackness'? That's not.

This was the point I felt Black Panther was trying to make, which seemed to utterly go over the heads of Americans.

... I mean, you're just wrong if you think there's no "black people" outside of the US. I lived in London for years. Yes, yes there is. Frankly, you sound white.

I’m American and so white I look like something that lives under rocks, and I was gonna say, I can totally see parts of the UK having high numbers of African immigrants from various countries, who identify as immigrants from wherever. But just because the British empire outlawed slavery before the US doesn’t mean there aren’t black people in the UK now who are descended from slaves and have no fucking clue where their ancestors were from, right? Or am I missing something?
