Any fandom regrets?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-28 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally regret writing a really graphic gang bang for my fandom. Someone reviewed it and said it was the saddest thing they'd ever read. I would delete it but it was reviewed really well by a lot of commenters and I've not been able to delete it yet. I feel like an awful person.

What? I definitely don't understand how that makes you awful.

I regret once posting a secret here with a spelling mistake. Y'all ripped me to shreds about it. :(

I was a terrible roleplayer back in LJ days.

Are you sure they didn't mean it as a compliment?

I regret assigning meaning and significance to any of my creations in fandoms. The older ones, pre 2012, more than anything else; but even the newer ones feel (to a sad scared me, so take with a pinch of salt) like just white noise in the end.

Some of the secrets I've posted. The death of tinypic was a tragedy, but it took some of my embarrassing memories with it.

There's a fanfic I haven't updated since 2009 and I had left it on a cliffhanger. I'd like to update it but my writing style has changed a lot and I feel like I would have to re-write the first half of the fic before posting my update.

Nah, re-write in your present style! I don't doubt people will want to know how the story turns out.

A billion years ago when I was first getting into online fandom, I read fanfic on the unmoderated wasteland that was Quizilla.
I was 11, and I read some of the weirdest, most startlingly fucked-up porn I've ever seen on that site.

So. Many. Regrets.

RA

Are you me?

Oh God, unmoderated wasteland is the perfect description. Although my regret is not saving those fics to rewrite later. They were so fucking awful, I read them again a few years after the first time and I'm amazed that I managed to get through such poorly written mess. I felt like I was reading a completely different story.

Bonus points for all the midi music tracks in the background. I do hope the author was alright, all of her stories featured some kind of abuse :(((

What a fucking mess though...lol

Oh god same here, only it was Adultfanfiction when I was about 11-12 years old. Someone linked their fic through an X-men Evolution fan-forum and... there was so much messed up stuff there that preteen me just willingly chose to read.
There's too many memories of messed up Yu-Gi-Oh! fics that I can still remember 20 years on.

i sometimes wistfully wish i had posted certain fanworks bc when they would have gotten more attention bc the fandom was more actively looking for that kind of stuff. fic of particular pairings that the fandom has moved on from now, or art of a fandom that isn't as active anymore, stuff like that. i think sometimes it'd be fun to find friends who like the stuff i was making! plus i do just enjoy the validation of "good work!" haha

BUT i used to be much more upset about it than i am now. in a way it at least feels a lil more freeing to just curate my own little corner of the word where i make whatever i want! without worrying about it. and if people happen to wander by and give a thumbs up that's swell~

I have a bit of regret over the fact that I used to be a very, very low-key anti. I mean, I never sent people hate or anything like that, so I basically wasn't truly an anti, but I did have anti views, and I expressed them a couple of times in my LJ.

The regret I feel isn't that strong, because I never really acted on my views in a way that was hurtful to others. But still, there are people out there who probably remember me as kind of an anti, and I wish that weren't the case.

I'll never regret my involvment in the FMA fandom, it was great as it was, but I sort of wish I could start all over again with slightly different fav characters and ships and see how different it would be?
