I don't like having to stop and second-guess whether the thing I feel like I need is "essential" enough to require going out

Yeah, same. There are some ingredients that I want to pick up that I would need to make certain dishes, but it's not like I'm completely without food altogether so I don't guess I technically need to go right now. I'm going to need to eventually, though, and part of me feels like it's better to go sooner than later since all the officials keep saying it's just going to get worse as time goes on, so...I don't know.

yeah, exactly. We need groceries and that's a natural exemption, but if the hoarders keep doing their thing, there's not going to be enough for those of us being responsible and now it's a snowball rolling down the hill, everything is terrible for everyone...

When officials talk about things getting worse, they are usually talking about the number of people getting sick and the healthcare system's ability to provide for those people, not the availability of half-and-half at the Grab & Go. In most of the world, once the idea that this is a longer term thing sinks in people stop panic shopping and settle in for the long haul.
