Re: How's everybody handling lockdown?

okay in some regards, not so much in others. I have worked from home for the past six years but I don't like having to stop and second-guess whether the thing I feel like I need is "essential" enough to require going out. at what point do I stop morally wrestling with whether I can justify buying grass seed for my sad lawn?

Yeah, same. There are some ingredients that I want to pick up that I would need to make certain dishes, but it's not like I'm completely without food altogether so I don't guess I technically need to go right now. I'm going to need to eventually, though, and part of me feels like it's better to go sooner than later since all the officials keep saying it's just going to get worse as time goes on, so...I don't know.

yeah, exactly. We need groceries and that's a natural exemption, but if the hoarders keep doing their thing, there's not going to be enough for those of us being responsible and now it's a snowball rolling down the hill, everything is terrible for everyone...

When officials talk about things getting worse, they are usually talking about the number of people getting sick and the healthcare system's ability to provide for those people, not the availability of half-and-half at the Grab & Go. In most of the world, once the idea that this is a longer term thing sinks in people stop panic shopping and settle in for the long haul.

I have the same problem with food. I'm probably going to run out of milk tomorrow but it's not like I would starve without it for quite some time. If I do get milk tomorrow or the day after, shouldn't I also pick up other things so I'm less likely to have to go out again in the near future and thus minimize exposure? But I may not yet be out of those things and therefore am basically reducing what's available in stores and thus reducing the chances someone who really is out will get that thing. That's probably thed lesser worry, as when I went to the store last week, they had restocked bread and dairy and had a decent amount of meat. I've yet to see a store out of fresh produce.

Try ultra pasteurized / canned / dried milk the next time you shop.
While all of these don't taste great straight, they're cheap, have a long shelf life, and are great for baking and cooking.
