Same thing happens in the US, only with a side of grossness from the other end of the aisle saying the Corrections Officers deserve what's coming to them for being part of a corrupt prison system. Which is its own brand of self-righteous with a stiff dose of classism, given the economic landscape where most US prisons are located, but some people can't resist the urge to kick someone when they're down if they can cloak it in some moral outrage.

Oh yes, definitely a smidge of that here too. I don't deny that there might be some sadistic bastards who use that sort of job as an excuse to bully other human beings...but I bet more are just trying to earn a living, some with little other options. It's real life not the Shawshank Redemption.
