I've read a lot of Alastair Reynold. I don't love all of it, but the Revelation Space series is possibly my favorite series of all time, and all his books are enjoyable enough while being fairly simple to read (= doesn't use difficult words, English isn't my native language and having to look up words a lot sucks). I don't know about favorite author but if I had to come up with one that's the only name my brain can conjure.

I like Alastair Reynolds. He's an interesting author because there's such an incredibly specific thing that he seems good at - basically, really in-depth hard SF ideas combined with really intense atmosphere and gothic vibes. It's a cool combo.

Yes! I read his books for the unique atmosphere, and then there's the plot which can be hit or miss. But even when the plot's a miss, the idea is generally solid enough I still find them really enjoyable. It doesn't have to be too different if it's something I like.
