Ohhh yeah OP. I think we're both in the minority but I hate this thing too. If I like a strong character the last thing I want to see is them portrayed as a whimpering sub. I just don't get it.

Nothing wrong with preferring strong characters to be dominant, but the way you worded this is coming off pretty offensive. You've basically at least implied that sub=weak and strong could not possibly be synonymous with sub. Also called all subs whimpering.

Well, that's the exact thing I've ran into in fandom? I never claimed ALL bdsm is like that, but it's the style I personally dislike. What's your point?

i like subby characters, but i like them subbing in the sense that they're just really happy to do things for their dom, but they're not written like some weepy baby who cries at the slightest provocation or can't make any choices at all.

personal preference and all, but it's just a major turn off for me.

This. I really prefer a sub who fights, cusses, kicks, bites - basically makes the dom work fucking hard for it.

(No, not rape, just someone who really wants something, but cannot bring themselves to admit it, and will fight to the bitter end before finally giving into, you know...orgasmic ecstasy.)

:D

Exact opposite for me. What is hot for me is the act of the sub giving up control. The dom having to take it is a lot less hot to me. The sub choosing to submit and staying in a scene willingly the entire time and trusting the dom completely is what gets me every time. It is just the hottest thing for me. So a sub who physically could overpower the dom and doesn't is a bonus for me. To each their own I guess.

I'm with you-- the giving of control is a GIFT, and it can be such a meaningful moment!

Though there are certainly ships where I can see both parties preferring to play-act out a power struggle, but like... it's still a case of an agreed-upon transfer of power, it's just a roleplay that takes place within that, that gives them a narrative FOR that transfer. When it's characters who enjoy physically sparring I can see that being a fun scene, but I just prefer there being that agreement in place even when they play out something combative.

I don't think a character being portrayed as a sub makes them weak, outside of the BDSM context. And what really works for me about it is the feeling that the character is actively choosing to submit because they want and need to submit. It's just a really hot dynamic to me.

This is why I love it when the stronger character submits. To me what is hottest is if the sub character could physically overpower the dom character and leave at any time but they choose not to because they want to submit and they trust the dom character to be the one they submit to.

This to me is much hotter than D/s where the dom character is physically stronger and uses that strength to insist on their dominance. Complete trust and submission as a choice takes BDSM to the next level for me and makes it the hottest possible.

Yeah, but sub=weak weeping baby is super common in some fandoms.
