thank you, thank you, thank you. i've always felt (and still do) like a freak. except it's a bit more difficult for me because, um, that kind of stuff is the *only thing in the world* that turns me on.
anyway thank you for posting that. it makes me feel a bit better.

Gee, I must be really old because we have always called that hurt/comfort and all its permutations. I thought everyone loved that, lol. Why else is fanfic riddled with fic where a character is hurt, either physically or emotionally? And the comfort part comes from the brother/partner/friend, etc. of that character.
And it's not unusual to want your favorite character to be the one being whumped- after all, you want the people who care about him on the show to express what you feel - worry, concern, love, whatever. At least that is what I like!

Unless you're talking about hurting him just for fun and you enjoy that ;-) That's something else; not wrong, just different than why I want to see my favorite character whumped ;-)

well, idk, i find a difference between 'liking' and 'be turned on'. the psychological mechanisms behind that might just as well those you describe (even though i don't know why, 'emotionally hurt' doesn't do it for me).
i'm sure there are plenty of people who like this kind of stuff, otherwise there wouldn't be fics and all (even though i always seem to pick whumpless fandoms... dammit)... i don't know what the secret's op meant, but physical h/c is as i said the only thing ever that can turn me on. i might be wrong and i'd like to be, but that does not seem quite common! of course if there's anyone else out there that feels the same way i'd be happy to know, so i can feel less weird.
might be because of society, upbringing, whatever, but to me it feels bit... weird (and by weird i mean wrong) to get turned on by a fic in which your barely conscious favourite character is dragging her/himself around/been dragged around.
idk, that's just how i feel, i'm sure it's going to be different for each person.

You may be right - the secret may be referring to arousal in the sexual sense as opposed to just plain loving it for the reasons I stated ;-) If so, yeah, that would be...different..although I am sure I have seen some documentaries about psychopathic studies that suggest that those folks are sexually aroused by physical injury. Not to say the OP is a psychopath....geesh, I best shut up now ;-)
I am definitely one who just loves the hurt/comfort when it's my favorite character being hurt and comforted because I love to see the care and concern by the other characters for my fave. I like to think it's a way for my own feelings for my favorite to be expressed by the partner/brother/friend of my favorite character.
Hope that makes sense.

Haha, no offense taken. ;) And it does make sense. I am indeed a fan of H/C in any form I can get, which I realize isn't that odd here on the interwebs.

Someone put it better in another comment- this is something I enjoy to fantasize about, read fic of, watch on tv, etc. But it's just that- fantasy. I'm a nonviolent person in reality and it wouldn't turn me on in the least to actually torture someone. But BRING ON THE PAIN to my favorite characters and let me watch them suffer anyday. ^_^

Also, yeah. It's an arousal thing (which is why the secret). I don't mind admitting that I like it. But I do feel weird that I find it so appealing on that level.

It's the OP here to say that YES I feel the same way. I get off to character torture of any form, but the physical is always the most satisfying, I've found. I agree that it seems... uncommon? While I have no issue telling people character suffering amuses me in a joking "lol I'm a sadist" way, I always feel... kind of creepy and weird admitting that it's something I find really hot. So yeah. You're not alone!
