Favorite & least favorite series finales

(Anonymous) 2020-04-15 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
So a few of my favorite shows have ended recently (and there are a few more ending soon) and they've mostly been pretty meh, which has gotten me to thinking about other finales, so I'm curious.

What's your favorite and least favorite?

Star Trek TNG had a pretty perfect ending as far as I'm concerned.

TBH I found it a bit dull. It felt too much like a normal episode. It was fine, it just didn't seem like a series final to me. Also, it had the Worf/Deanna thing which...no.

That's probably why I liked it. I wouldn't say dull, but I HATE these "And now we'll never see eachother again, good bye for ever" finales (Looking at you DS9). Always prefer the "And now the adventure continues" endings. Always have.

And I didn't /mind/ Worf Dianna - I mean as far as Dianna Romance episodes go, she has done never done better than Worf - although I much prefer Worf and Jazdia.

Actually... I think Worf is just about the only Trek Character that gets GOOD romances. Everyone else is terrible.

Worf and Jadzia is my Star Trek OTP. Also, Worf does sex rough. He'd break Deanna like a twig the first time they tried sexy times. I just can't see it. Personally I'd say it is more like DS9 is the only show that did romance well since I like Kira and Odo as well, though not nearly as much as Worf and Jadzia.

I guess I don't mind characters leaving if it works, though I don't need it. I just like a final to feel like a final. the TNG final to me didn't really. It didn't feel like it was a fitting end for such a great show. A season ender, sure. But not a show ender.

I gotta disagree with you on Kira and Odo. Can't stand all that "Will they wont they" crap.

Worf and Dax did it right. 1 or two great episodes of build up and then hook up at the end.

Odo had such great episodes. Kira too had some decent episodes. Their 4 seasons of "Odo pines for Kira" was dreadful. And when they got together they only really had 1 great episode as a couple. the one where Odo is pretending he's holding together better than he really is, but Kira already knows.

Deep Space 9 DID have the other great romance that springs to mind - Leeta and Rom. And actually, Bashir and Garak looked like it had some promise before the writers chickened out. Hell, all the relationships, romantic and otherwise were great on that show...

Except The Kira / Odo tease, and all the "Kira in love with this bajoran politician, in love with that Vedic"...

You know, at the risk of being called sexist, I really think it was Kira. The writers didn't know how to write her romantically, and she didn't know how to act romantic. The one time they got her believably romantic was in the Above episode. The character suited - and the acress was clearly comfortable - with a stoic, quiet, determined kind of romance, rather than all the girly shite they made her do for most of the show.

Agree to disagree I guess. I just really like friendships developing to romance. I do think it wasn't executed the best it could be on screen. But the characters work as a couple for me in spite of that.

Happy to agree to differ. A lot of people love Kira, and my being... less than appreciative... I get that mine is the outsider opinion, so simply agreeing to differ is about the best outcome I've ever had while talking about Kira.

Favorite: The Big Bang Theory. I didn't like a bunch of episodes leading up to the finale, but the last episode was pretty nice.

Least Favorite: Sherlock. All the drama after the episode aired was way more entertaining than the actual finale.

It didn't end in the sense that the last episode was advertised as the final one, but I think it's considered unlikely there will be more.

Least: How I Met Your Mother is the worst. Game of Thrones comes close. Star Trek: Enterprise because while I didn't even like the show that much, that final was a big fuck you to the fans.

Best: Babylon 5. Deep Space Nine. Voyager. Buffy (Season 7 had some issues, but the final was superb). Legend of the Seeker.

I didn't see the finale of The Middle but I read a summary and it sounded nice.

Breaking Bad's finale is phenomenal. I watched it in a state of "OMG O.O" all the way through. Walt kinda redeems himself with what he does? And then, having found out what happened in the end, I watched the rest of that season in reverse order - I couldn't face it in the normal order.

Still haven't watched the middle four seasons or so.

As for GoT, not with a bang but a whimper. Sigh.

Favourite: Scrubs, Forever, Hannibal, MASH

Least Favourite: Quantum Leap burned me pretty badly. Otherwise most shows that had bad finales I tended to quit long before the actual finale...

To me QL was a sad ending, not a bad one. So many fics to send Sam home.

Favorites: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and The Good Place (not sorry at all)

Least favorite: Game of Thrones. I wasn't watching anymore by the last season, and I still felt the pain.
